The picturesque village of Glenridding near Ullswater was grew originally as the result of a large lead mine in the vicinity. Nowadays it attracts many outdoor enthusiasts for climbing, trekking and water sports in the area, including visitors to Englands third highest mountain the nearby Helvellyn. Beautiful Ullswater has steamer services, boat hire, fishing and lakeshore footpaths. Between them, the villages of Glenridding and Patterdale provide well for visitors.
