Cleator Moor Hotels

Cleator is a small village in Cumbria beside the River Ehen. Cleator is on the A5086 southeast of Whitehaven. The village is a companion to Cleator Moor, a mile away. They both owe their existence to iron ore mining worked from the 12th century. The Industrial Revolution increased the mining in scale but it declined as supplies reduced of the high-grade ore in the early 1900s. Rail lines were constructed from Whitehaven to Cleator with branch lines to carry the ore. The old railway lines are now part of the C2C (Coast to Coast) cycle and walking network. From a tourism point of view the village is not far from the Lake District National Park and the coastal towns. There is a country house hotel near Cleator village, also an inn and a hotel at Ennerdale Bridge have accommodation.
