Cleator Moor Cottages

The village of Cleator, beside the River Ehen, owes its existence to iron ore. Rich seams were worked in the area from the 12th century but especially during the Industrial Revolution. The old railway lines, which carried the iron ore, were incorporated into the Coast to Coast (C2C) cycle network. Water powered flax mills also provided work for the area. When mining declined agriculture became the main source of work. There are some self-catering cottages in the area, notably there are a few cottages close to Ennerdale Bridge village in the beautiful Ennerdale Valley.
