Horse Riding in the Lake District

Horse Riding in the Lake District

Horse Riding can be either stimulating or relaxing but will always be rewarding. Whether you seek an exhilarating gallop or a gentle walk by the sea at low tide, whether you are an experienced rider with your own horse or a complete novice, the horse riding stables and centres in the Lake District can accommodate you. Discover the beauty, tremendous views and freedom of the Lake District while trekking along a bridle path, high up on the fells, along a grassy track or racing along a beach. First class instruction and horses are available for all sizes, ages and abilities.

Holmescales Riding Centre
Centres like Holmescales Riding Centre at Old Hutton near Kendal can offer private hacking, trekking or tuition and courses in private or group lessons. Livery is available for your own horse and children are welcome from four years upwards. Outstanding facilities include an indoor school, an outdoor jumping paddock, and cross-country fences.

Hipshow Riding Stables
Hipshow Riding Stables at Patton, also near Kendal, also offers bed and breakfast accommodation on the premises.

Bigland Hall Equestrian Centre
Bigland Hall Equestrian Centre is based near Backbarrow, Ulverston. Pony trekking, half or full day rides and beach rides are available. Riding holidays are offered consisting of two or three day trail rides or a circular trail ride.

Murthwaite Green Trekking Centre
Murthwaite Green Trekking Centre is family run business on the edge of the Lake District. It offers horse riding and pony trekking on the beach and fells. The location allows direct access onto Silecroft Beach, which has 5 miles of golden sand and shallow waters. Beach rides are available for all abilities as well as fell rides, full and two day rides, picnic beach rides and centre based holidays. The five day circular trail ride gives an extra special way to explore parts of the Lake District. Accommodation is arranged in various B&Bs, inns and hotels.

Lakeland Pony Trekking
Lakeland Pony Trekking is at Limefitt Caravan Park in the central lakes near Lake Windermere. With direct access to the track and bridleways in the Troutbeck Valley and the high fells, supervised treks, day rides and trail rides offer outstanding views of the district. All ages and levels of experience are catered for. Tailor a riding holiday while staying at the Caravan Park, whether you prefer tents, touring caravans, family caravans or campers. Luxury static caravans and wooden lodges can also be rented. A restaurant, bar, shop, laundry room, camper's kitchen and sanitary facilities are on site.

Moat Farm Equestrian Centre
Moat Farm Equestrian Centre is a new centre at the hamlet of Aldingham, close to the sea in the southern lakes area. It is a National Pony Club Centre with direct private beach access so you can enjoy hacking without the need for any roadwork. Fully qualified and resident instructors handle the tuition and courses. It is an ideal centre for first time horse owners, bringing on novice horses and for competition riders. The large Indoor and Outdoor Riding School with Martin Collins waxed surfaces are available for hire by the hour or half. In July they plan to hold Shetland Pony Parties. Eight children can get a two-hour party including or excluding food using their four Shetland ponies. A birthday party perhaps, with a difference!
